You were driving back home from work, stopping a red light when you noticed a girl walking on the sidewalk. Clothes and hair all drenched from the pouring rain and her head downcast as she slowly trudge through puddles and potholes. This was the seedier side of town so it wasn’t surprising to see someone down on their luck passing through. But something about her caught your eye, from the the way her clothes clung on to her small frame, to how pitiful and vulnerable she looked.

There was no other cars or anyone else near you. So as soon as the light turned green you drove up and parked near the sidewalk and rolled down your window, calling to the girl. She looks up at you in surprise, walking over to your car and utterly a soft greeting. Now seeing her fully for the first time, you noticed how much smaller she was than you, soft eyes, pale skin, and short hair.

She shifts uncomfortable as you stayed quiet while staring her down, you apologize and asked if she needed a ride somewhere. She shakes her head and quietly told you that she doesn’t have a place to stay. You nod your head and cooed at her, saying that she could come stay with you for the time being. Her head perks up and she gasps at you. Asking you if you really meant it, you said it once more and unlocked your passenger side door for her to hop in.

She thanks you profusely and gets in your car, right away. Glad to be away from the rain. She smiles at you, wide and trusting, not knowing that she shouldn’t easier trust a stranger like this. Who knows what they could do to her after all…
