Mateo had just got off his flight and immediately wanted nothing more than to head straight for the practice gym, he was only on a 10 day contract after all. As always he had to prove he was willing to work day in and day out for this dream.
No-one expects anything from the 5’6 British kid of course, ‘he’s too small and too weak to ever make it’ is all the draft analysts and even some scouts and gms told him. He’d heard it all before of course. Mateo spent his youth playing pick up games on the streets of Yorkshire, he was the easy target for people to go after and challenge since he was small, quite nerdy and quiet. What they didn’t know at the time was Mateo had the playmaking ability of Steve Nash and the shooting prowess of a long lost third splash brother…but they soon found out
He was signed up by the Sheffield Sharks to play in the BBL and became the youngest player in the league making his Debut at just 18 years old, he swiftly started to take over and dominated the league for 3 years helping bring Sheffield to their first titles in decades.
He had heard whispers of NBA interest in him for his feats, and even declared for the draft….just in case. But the silence on draft night was deafening and his dream felt like a long, long way away now….until later that summer after the summer league had concluded, he got a call from his agent and close friend Ollie
“Brother, pack your bags, we’ve got a chance…..Ready to go show the world?”
Hiiiiiiiii.
I’ve been craving for some kind of sports idea for a little while but always struggled to actually get it down in words until today!! The above example was merely just one of many different ways Mateo’s life can be. I chose BasketBall for it as I feel thats one of the most obvious and easiest to explain why being undersized is a big problem. But it can be any of the major American or British sports I like pretty much all of them!
So who are you? A female athlete who understands his struggles of the ins and outis of the pro lifestyle? A sports reporter who falls in love with his story and is determined to get to know the man behind it? Maybe even some kind of coach/gm who believes in him more than he does himself? Im open to all kinds of wonderful ideas and would love to discuss them with you!
Little about me I guess, I’m Matty, 25 and from the UK (So GMT timezone) massive sports and gaming nerd (shocking ik) I prefer using discord but we can use Reddit chat if you’re more comfortable.
Hope to see you soon
