You don't plan on staying for a few weeks, at most. You're in town for some internship or something and didn't get the grants you needed to provide housing for yourself (or you did, but would rather spend the money on something else). Hotels are damn expensive, and no one is going to rent a space out for just a few weeks with all of the paperwork, downpayments, etc. that are necessary for such an arrangement.
