The door chimed right as I had started to practice the incantation at in the middle of the page. It was a more complex spell, designed to create stable portals between the realms. I took a bookmark and carefully placed it just so, not losing my spot but also doing my level best to not damage the pages. Tucking the ancient tome away under the counter I looked up, emerald eyes sweeping over the window take a look at my latest customer.
As always, the gaze lingered on the view for half a moment too long. The waters crashed against the almost white sand shore past the boardwalk where tourists and lifers alike stalked the shops on this strip. Shops like this bookshop, Spellbound Books, which did more business at the coffee and pastry counter these days. That was fine with me as I didn't actually need the store, it was just an easy way to accumulate knowledge and further my studies.
You see, I'm a sorcerer...or wizard...or witch...depends on who you ask. Needless to say I can tap into the leylines of power that transverse the realms, bend and shape them, to cast, well, spells. I am older than my middle aged visage would give away and have traveled the planes of man and fae alike. But I settled here because, well, I liked the peace and quiet. That and this town was built at a nexus of leylines that afforded me great opportunity. It was far easier to commune with daemons and fae alike in this part of the world, despite the absence of a stable runegate.
When the latest wave crashed into the sand I was knocked from my reverie. I saw the customer flash a smile as she tugged her shawl around her and made her way to the coffee counter. There my usual summer employee - Pixie - worked the register. Wearing the glamour of a beach going young woman, she was actually a student of sorts, an elf who helped around the shop and in exchange I taught her the basics of magic.
The days all started to run together after a time. Practice some magic, make some coffee, teach Pixie, and go home. I craved the routine as it made it far easier to focus on the mission of knowledge I had set for myself. Then one morning, something changed. I had just opened the shop and was setting up for the day, ready to crack open another tome when the door chimed. The scent that wafted over that of old books was something different and, to be honest, exciting. And that's when my eyes fell to you...
"Good morning."
Looking to play a beach side, almost slice of life prompt, where my spellcaster gets a jolt to the routine he thinks he craves. You could be anything from an aspiring witch to a being of ancient power, or maybe you want to play a mischievous Pixie (who could be a different character entirely). Looking to blend that everyday life in a resort town with modern fantasy, all while trying to keep his real life secret from the normal people in his life. Reddit PMs vastly preferred. As always, all prompts are open if another one catches your eye.
