Life as an interdimensional courier isn't easy. First, you need to have the Talent to manipulate Runegates - think of them as the highways of traversing realms - and open Slipways, which are basically shortcuts. Second, you need to find a company willing to hire you, which are few and far between to begin with and even more rare on the Earth side of things. Finally, after all that, you have to find a way to make rent when you go on some of the long hauls.

That's the position I found myself in a few months ago. I had been working for Slipway Services for a few years at that point and made a name for myself as a reliable delivery person. As a result I kept getting tougher jobs, but after I managed to deliver a parcel of a delicate (and intimate) nature to the Orc Queen of the Null Hells, I kept receiving more dangerous and involved assignments. Getting paid on return meant that the sometimes my bills would go unpaid until the very last minute. Despite explaining my career to my normally understanding and kind elf landlady she insisted that my rent would be due on time and that failure to do so would result in some not so kind penalties.

Now I know what you're thinking - why not just move? There were some problems with that, first of which is that I had gotten rather comfortable in the place. And even though I can make Slipways, Runegates are far easier to navigate and *nudge* in the proper direction and I lived in a spot on Earth that was near one of the major Runegate hubs. Life here was great as I didn't have to hide who I was and got to meet all manner of interesting - and alluring - folks who came through the Gate for their trip to Earth. Giving all of that up was not something I was willing to do.

But a sublet, well, that wouldn't be the worst thing.

And so that's what I settled on. After a job that would require me traveling for several months came across the wire, I put out an ad for a temporary tenant. It was on the up and up with the landlady, so long as the rent ended up in her account, and after a few days I found you. On paper you were perfect - another courier, albeit one who wasn't going on nearly as long jobs as me - and your references were impeccable. Every reference I called had nothing but glowing things to say, especially about how kind you could be.

That was three months ago. The delivery went off without a hitch and I had even made it back a few weeks early. Given our conversations before I left I figured it wouldn't be an issue. When I opened the door I was shocked.

There was a mess, which I didn't mind. What was a bit alarming were the number of monuments to your hedonism strewn around the apartment - my apartment. Several sex toys were on the coffee table; lingerie and other outfits hung on the back of chairs; and I don't even want to think about what color that towel actually was.

"Oh, you're home early..."

I turned the corner and you were standing in the doorway to the kitchen, practically naked. I dropped my bags and gawked. I hadn't seen you in anything other than street clothes and to see you like this, well, it made me forget how tired I was after my long trip.

"Listen...I'm not ready to move out yet...can we work something out?"
