Hi DPP!

Today, I’d like to play a celebrity taking a much needed break (whether for a long weekend, a “normal” 1-2 week low key getaway/vacation, or for an extended period is up for discussion!) at her lake house. She’s owned the place for years, but admittedly hasn’t been there recently. It’s a nice home, of course, but perhaps a bit modest by her usual standards. A couple of bedrooms, a nice deck overlooking the lake, a few scaled back amenities like a hot tub or even a sauna outside, an updated kitchen and bath inside, but overall a more rustic, laid back and charming place. Perfect to unwind.

Of course, with relatively low usage on her part, she’s had to hire a caretaker to keep the place up- maybe the caretaker is simply a friendly face in the area who does this sort of work for all the seasonal owners, maybe it’s a neighbor she’s known since first buying the place, or maybe she’s got a relative who lives there (or at least nearby) full or part time to keep the place well used and maintained. Seeing as she hasn’t been by in a couple of years, it’s a comfort to know the house will be more or less how it was the last time she was here. However, the lake house/cabin on either side of hers is no longer the same. There’s still some definition of privacy between properties, but some of the thick trees have been removed in one direction, so from one deck the neighboring deck can now be seen, and the owner is no longer the sweet old couple she remembered. On the other side, the cover of foliage remains to offer a natural block in views, but a new dock has been installed, reaching further into the lake and anyone using it can easily see back into her outdoor spaces without obstruction, and it seems that place is now a hot ticket property on VRBO or air BnB, new visitors using the place frequently. Neither change is a dealbreaker , but any change takes some getting used to. Hopefully the new neighbors prove to be interesting at least ;)

On this particular visit, let’s discuss whether the celeb is dropping in all alone, or with her partner, perhaps with a friend or relative instead? Let’s also discuss the neighbors and/or anyone else she may encounter instead. Is the caretaker a hot older man? Is the rental house taken up by a bachelor party or a couple of friends looking for a quiet weekend of fishing and grilling out? Is the new full time neighbor a reclusive writer, a recent retiree, or just the inheriting younger version of the former neighbor? So many fun options exist, I’d love to spin some creative ideas back and forth.
