It seemed counterintuitive honestly: four years of nothing but marital issues, fights, miscommunications, shouting matches and the silent treatment resulting in a strained and awkward sex life. What followed immediately upon cooperatively handing in our divorce papers could hardly have been expected.

A few awkward laughs and well wishes in the parking lot, and a few lingering glances as well. Twenty minutes later we'd be falling through the door of a nearby hotel room to spend the night tearing into each other, panting, grabbing and rutting into one another, making use of every inch of that king bed until collapsing from exhaustion, the sheets sticking to our sweaty bodies. Morning held in store a steamy fuck against the tile shower wall before we went on our separate ways.

There wasn't a lingering animosity, not even slightly. It seems we were better off separate, perhaps marriage was something we could be good at, just not with each other. The divorce seemed the best thing for our sex life paradoxically, and I replayed that night who knows how many times in the month since it happened.
