The streets of Middenheim were filled with people, and the sounds and smells of the Carnival Week filled the air for the fourth day now. Everyone had been waiting for the festivities to finally start to the fullest, but for a young thief named Louise the Carnival Week brought opportunities to pay debs, and maybe earn some extra.

She was a pretty young thing, though she hid her femininity beneath a disguise: the clothes of a Knight's squire she stole some five months ago now. They allowed her to blend in with the rougher crowd that inhabited the city's underbelly she had grown up in.

Louise had been protected by the Temple of Shallya she had grown up within, until she ran away after a member of the Merchant's Guild told her to bestow "Shallya's Love" with her mouth to procure another month of funding for the poor temple.
So, she turned to thievery, honing her skills in the art of deception and stealth. It wasn't a life she had chosen willingly, but it was a life that allowed her to avoid the desperate measures other women in her situation resorted to.

But during Carnival Week, she'd have ample opportunity to capitalize on the chaos and revelry that would engulf the city. As she crept through the labyrinthine streets, the sounds of laughter and music spilling from the festivities filled the air. She embraced the chaos, using it as cover for her illicit activities. Eventually, she arrived at a merchant's office, a huge building nestled within the Geldmund district. With nimble fingers she picked the lock to the office door, slipping inside undetected. It was a huge building, but it was empty, luckily enough. The Merchant had given his clerks and servants the day off, to enjoy the festivities.

Unfortunately he had only given his clerks the day off...
