Arahdeen was a magical land, filled with all of the wonderous things that one might imagine existed within its borders. Its people thrived, living a life of peace and longevity, the power of the land tied to the line of the royal family, who had ruled over Arahdeen for millennia, since the end of the Great War of the last Era.

But all of that peace came to an end when the magical plague had risen over the land. It spread like the wind, passing over city after city, felling 7 out of 10 people it touched, destroying the population of this peaceful and magical land. But things did not get truly bad until the plague had touched the royal family, the very line that was tied to the prosperity and magic of the very world itself.

The queen had been taken first, and then the youngest princess, still just a babe. After that, the royal family had called for all the wizards and magicians that would answer the call, looking to end the horrible plague before the last of the royal line died, and with it, the land itself. It was only theorized what would happen if the royal line ended, but each and every theory called for an ending that was catastrophic at best. Something that needed to be avoided at all costs.

And so, with only the King, his son and daughter left alive to carry on the line, the King had had to make the decision that his son and daughter would need to procreate, to keep the family line alive. All who knew of the plight were in agreement, even if it was taboo and unheard of. But the fate of the entire land, of their own people were at risk. There was no other choice.

But the day before their marriage, the crown prince was infected with the plague, and only a few days later, he passed away.

Now the unthinkable was left. Father must marry daughter if the land is survive, and they would need to procreate as well.

“I cannot fathom this decision.” King Horus Dellian growled as he slammed his mug onto the table. “It is not right to force this upon us. My own damned daughter?!” He continued, the mead in the cup spilling over ono the table. The magistrates were silent. They knew how the king felt, he had been quite vocal about it.

“There simply is no other choice, your majesty. IF you do not marry her, if you two do not produce royal heirs, then the land will die when you do.” Amian was a well spoken man, but he was late on in years, and his face was nearly covered win his bushy grey hair and beard. He was one of the king’s most trusted advisors.

“We have gone over it a hundred times your majesty. It is a shame that Leoric, your son, passed before he could wed and lay with his sister. But now, we are left with no other choice.”

The king looked up at the woman who had spoken, the magistrate in charge of the treasury, and he frowned at her.

“That wound…is still raw.” The king’s was voice dour and low. He had loved his family all, wife of twenty years, daughter, son and his newborn daughter as well. It was all too much for an ordinary man to handle. However, he was no ordinary man, he was a king, and thus he had his responsibilities.

“She has agreed, your majesty.” Amian looked back and forth between the other magistrates, seeing them nodding slowly. “She understands that there is no other way. If the royal line dies…”

“Yes, yes, I know. Fuck man, I understand the consequences. But she is my precious daughter! She is supposed to be finding a man she loves and marrying him, starting a family with HIM. Not with her father!” Horus sighed and rubbed at his face. How had it all come to this? Who was it that he would need to both wed and copulate with his own daughter, his pride and joy, his precious little one.

“She is of age, your highness.” Another man spoke and the look that the king gave him withered him on sight, the man slinking and backing behind the other magistrates to hide from that piercing gaze.

“Shut up, Joric,” Amian hissed as he turned to also throw a glower at the man. After a moment he returned his attention back to his king, a man he had served for his entire life, a man whose heartache he felt within his own chest. He had been close with the royal family, and seeing the queen fall had nearly ruined the king. When his newborn daughter and son had also died, Amian wasn’t sure the man would ever recuperate. “Your majesty,” He went on, “We shall leave you now. I am sorry for disturbing your lunch.” He turned and motioned for the men and women to all file out of the chamber.

“Amian, I…” Horus began, but he trailed off as his mind was still in tatters. He had lost almost everything, and now he was being asked to do the impossible. Well, not impossible, but something that should never happen. A father and daughter, rebuilding a family line. It should be sickening to him, and yet she did remind him of her mother in many ways. “No, fuck I can’t think like that.” He growled and stood, walking over to the balcony and staring down into the gardens. He saw his beautiful daughter there, walking amidst the fruit trees with her most trusted advisors and aides. Was she having the same conversation with them? Was she horrified at the idea of having to marry and lay with her father? To produce her own sisters and brothers?

He loved the land, loved his people, and would do anything to keep them safe. Already the wizards believed that they had an answer for the magical plague, but the damage had been done.

Would his own daughter truly be okay with this? Would he? Before father and daughter, they were still a man and woman after all. And the fate of the entire land relied on the two of them finding it within themselves to pass this test of morality. Or perhaps immorality as it were.

“Amian, please send for my daughter, I think we need to talk.”

“Yes, your majesty.” The man bowed and slipped from the room. Horus watched his daughter walk for a short time before finally turning and walking back into his room, pacing back and forth at the thought of the coming conversation.
