The college campus didn’t have a lot of housing for upperclassmen so most sports teams rented houses in town that would get handed down year to year as players graduated. The softball team was no different, they had an actually been the trend setter of the idea, first renting the the house at 301 Peach Drive 9 years ago.

“Thirty One” as the girls called it was actually a nice house with a good landlord. The house is two stories with an unfinished basement. There were 2 big bed rooms on the first floor along with a full bathroom, new kitchen, dinning room, and living room. The second floor had 3 bedrooms and another bathroom. 9 girls, usually the starting line up except the occasion when a true freshman made the lineup, lived in the house. 3 girls each would live in the two first floor rooms and 3 girls on the second floor had their own rooms, it ended up working out well and never really any problems.

Well actually, there was one problem, 9 girls and only two showers. It didn’t take too many years for something to change and adding another bathroom really wasn’t an option without completely finishing the basement and the landlord wasn’t willing to do that much work. Instead, what the girls counters with was a large shower down there, it didn’t need to be professional and one of the girl’s dad was a plumber and was willing to do it for free. What they created in the basement was a rudimentary shower in the corner of the basement. Thankfully the basement already had a center drain so they didn’t have to worry about that. Installed in the rafters of the floor was three shower heads evenly spaced and one water control set up. They hung shower curtains around the shower area to keep the water from spraying everywhere, mounted some metal ledges for soap and stuff, and that was it. For that spring on, the group showers after games and practices became part of the team culture.
