WRITING EXAMPLE (third person) - mafia boss/assassin/criminal/body guard/cop/detective/other paired with performer/singer

The microphone caught her nervous breath before anything else, an almost surprising echo that made her eyes widen more against the harsh spotlight. As the crowd hid among the candlelit shadows, her shaking hands grabbed the microphone stand to keep steady.

Her voice quietly poured from her full lips like sweet honey, a silken sound that slowly took over the club’s atmosphere. Hints of soulful jazz singers from a different age hidden within her range were still finding their place in her immature voice, an innocence striking her sweet tone. Her hands slowly moved down the stiff microphone stand as she sang, more eyes starting to stare back at her as the song built.

But in a club like this, it wasn’t enough to hit the right notes. She dropped her hands from the stand as she sang, her fingertips hitting her bare thighs. Slowly, her touch crept up to the same rhythm of the bass, her skin shimmering with makeup glitter. As she hit the short hem of her dress, she closed her eyes like she was singing alone to fight against her racing heart, the fabric of her dress lifting with her touch for just a moment.

WRITING EXAMPLE (first person) - archeologists, investigators, mafia

A chilling cold of evening air outside was instantly replaced with the stale humidity of the hole in the wall that hadn’t seen a deep cleaning in a decade. I would have stood out if there was anyone to witness my entrance – and the few that did linger in the bar knew better than to get into someone else’s business at this type of place.

I scanned the few bar patrons before identifying my match, and the only plausible option – unless the truck driver looking for an easy lay tonight was the one sending me coded messages about a secret meeting. My heels clicked against the sticky laminate flooring as I approached the one waiting for me.
