Alyson and I had been dating for 2 years. We were at a spot in our relationship where we felt so familiar with one another that there wasn't much left to learn. For our anniversary, we decided to take a romantic getaway to her family's cottage, deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest.

We'd talked about it, and we decided to invite our friends, Manny and Helen. We met Manny a few months ago when Helen started dating him. He and I hit it off pretty well, but Helen and I never got along though. We might as well have been cats and dogs. She was Alyson's best friend from grade school, and they went almost everywhere together straight through college. She would bounce from one guy to another every few months, usually starting with the new before ending it with the previous one. She was much more of a party girl than Alyson or myself, and because of that and her revolving door of partners, I considered her a bad influence. Their dynamic was less than what I considered ideal. Helen was a bit of a spoiled brat in the relationship, and Manny lived to please her it seemed. But it worked for them.

It just so happened that their four month anniversary lined up with our two year, so Alyson wanted to invite Helen as a sort of reward for her new achievement, so it was going to be the four of us in the cabin in the middle of nowhere.

We met up Friday afternoon, and Manny followed us up there with Helen in his car as Alyson drove us up to her family's little getaway. All in all, it was pretty nice. There was working plumbing, a series of generators that could last for the whole weekend, and even a hot tub. We unloaded the groceries, and set everything up, and made a couple of frozen pizzas before settling in. Alyson and I brought cards, and we even found a closet full of games ranging from the standard to _Exchanji: An Exciting Game of Changes_.
