There's all sorts of discourse out there about the general impacts of marriage and long-term cohabitation on a couple's sexual life, with its own queer flavours a la the alleged 'lesbian bed death'. Today I want to write out a scene or series of scenes where a married couple embraces their union, and deepen it with an erotic intensity.

One way is through kink, gender play, and play with power difference. The most straightforward path is through turning heternormative ideals on their head through taking the dynamics of an idealized ‘traditional’ union and making them sapphic. Maybe we're parents and I'm the homemaker, and you the breadwinner. We do love each other, genuinely, but one partner takes care of the other financially and the other can offer her beauty and sexuality; not as cold economic exchange but stemming from appreciation and love. Maybe I spend my time taking care of my body and looks, investing in clothing, lingerie and skincare, when I'm not making you excellent lunches and dinners, taking care of our kids or attending to suburban drama. Plenty of yoga pants, robes,pilates, wine, and sports bras during the day, and then long lovemaking during the night. I'm leaning into exaggerations, but it's a vibe.

Another way is to invert the dynamic even further, where the stay at home partner is mommy by day, and proverbially Daddy at night; the breadwinner, who I'd love to play here, is actually the sexually submissive partner. In this dynamic the domicile isn't just a place of gentle femininity, but power, and a way of taking care of the other partner, who after a long day of being a girlboss just needs to relent, submit to someone, and be taken care of, lovingly and firmly.
