My boyfriend said he had learned from his dad that networking was everything. We had recently started dating and he invited me along to a Saturday with "the boys" I had been trying to spend more time with him and relented since he insisted it was important. I quickly learned two things 1. "The boys" were his days 30 year old coworkers and 2. I hated golf. I wanted to spend time with him so I relented and tried it for a few weekends, awkward tagging along, listening to him try and make jokes, awkwardly trying his clubs a few times and honestly hating it, but I was new to dating and he was cute so I tagged along.

On the fourth weekend in a row it was the middle of the afternoon and I had given up trying to swing clubs for the day. When Mr. Jeffries made some excuses to his buddies about his shoulder bothering him and needing to head back to the club house. "Hey sport, why not let me take your girlfriend with me? Maybe she would have better luck with clubs her size?" I agreed to go with him, if only to get out of the sun and I was tired of standing around. He took a scenic route to get back, speeding along in his personal gift cart, he helpfully held onto me a few times as he hit the turns a little too fast. At the clubhouse he was very helpful helping me find clubs, leaning over me to show me a proper stance, guiding my hips with his hands....

A few hours later my boyfriend met me in parking lot. I was smiling happily, apologizing for being a little bit sweaty as Mr. Jeffries had really helped me learn to appreciate golf. I told him how much I was looking forward to next week.

On the following Saturday Mr. Jeffries insisted on giving me more private lessons right from the start, though he said Paul should come by a little later to help me work on putting or something? Either way suddenly my boyfriend was told he was integral to the golfing group and that he should consider coming on Sundays as well, and that a new internship was opening up that he'd be perfect for. Meanwhile I was starting to very much enjoy these weekends.....
