In some sense, I find myself wondering from time to time, Hell must be a preferable alternative to capitalism, as here the punishment is uniform and unexcepting. There's no way to buy yourself out of it, no manner of bribe to sway us, no political power you can wield to turn us to your cause.

At least, that's what I used to think.

The problems began when some reaper left their handbook on the surface after a retrieval. It happens from time to time, no big deal: all of our manuals are written in Demonic, which is not only illegible but actively corrosive to human minds. Except this particular manual had, for reasons unknown, been translated into a human language before being left behind. It's a common intimidation tactic amongst reapers, to show the target the text which gave the reaper jurisdiction to claim their soul. But the big rule to remember if you're going to go down that road is to remember to convert the book back to Demonic as soon as you're done.

This step was missed, leading to a book on the operating procedures of Hell itself winding up on the shelves of an esoteric bookstore. From there it traced an uninteresting path through the libraries of various occultists, before finally falling into your hands.

You, being an amateur (in the kindest possible sense of the word), were unaware of the precise nature of what you'd found. Still, it seemed to be a book filled with forbidden information, and humans are naturally curious creatures, feline fatalities be damned. So you set about reading, and after a month or so you felt confident enough to try out your first spell.

A simple spell: temporarily summon a demon to you. We use it in place of phone calls or texts down below. If you need to get an expert's opinion, just summon them, hear what they have to say, then return them to what they were doing before.

Except... remember how I said you were an amateur?

You fucked up one of the most crucial components of the spell. I'm not sure what exactly went wrong, but instead of immediately terminating the casting ritual you persevered, thereby creating an entirely new gestalt effect rooted in tbe original spell but fundamentally different in its outcome.

And so I find myself, a simple torturer with little to no thaumic abilities, wrenched up to Earth against my will. When I tried to leave, I discovered I was unable to - and when you ordered me to sit, I sat. I had become bound to you, and I was not happy about it.
