I've been dating my girlfriend for a couple of years, ever since college. It's a pretty standard relationship for two broke people in their twenties. She's a theater geek, and I'm a book geek, so when we moved in together it was about saving money as much as paying bills.

That said, you don't make a lot of money as an early-career actress. She worked a lot of odd jobs and waited tables, before she heard from her acting coach about a part-time job that pays really, really well. And it's lots of fun, too.

Now, don't laugh. She's already heard all the jokes. But contrary to what porn may lead you to believe, escorting isn't just another word for sex work. When celebrities attend some high-society black tie event, they're expected to bring an elegant, attractive plus-one. Otherwise gossip columnists will have nothing to write about.

But when you're a big star, you don't always have a suitable date. Maybe you're only in town for a weekend, and your SO is back home. Maybe you're single, or in a new relationship, or in the closet. Well, sometimes a photographer asks her to kiss her date for the cover of tomorrow's magazine. Sometimes things happen after a line of coke in a nightclub. Sometimes her date is really cute and charming, and fake attraction turns into the real thing. And sometimes a movie star asks if she'd like to continue the party at his place.

And this one is her biggest event yet: a weekend trip with [attractive famous person] to attend [the Cannes/Tribeca/Sundance/Toronto/The Oscars] film festival, with a paid flight, hotel room, fancy dress, food and champagne all covered. All she has to do is look good and have fun during the ceremony....and the party....and the after-party....and the after-after-after party.
