The text crawled up my live chat on my second monitor as I streamed myself playing an RPG that had a huge fanbase but that I'd never played before. I could see why it was so popular, and clearly a lot of my small number of viewers were already fans and had played it a few times. It was a good choice, though; I never expected to live off my income from streaming, but a few dozen dollars each month didn't hurt, especially making it while I did something I liked, and this game was driving more viewers than I usually got, with a couple of new people each night. I might break $50 just this week, which would be a personal record.

"Yeah, I know I can play as the other factions, guys, but this is my first playthrough. I'll play the game the way it expects me to play it first, then mod it and try a renegade playthrough later, okay?" I addressed my chat through my headset mic.

There was a knock at the door and you poked your head in. I saw you in the camera feed and pulled a side of my headset back to turn and look at you.

"I'm going out for ice cream at the corner store. Did you need anything?"

"No, thanks," I said with a short smile.

This weekend was the family reunion, and Mom and Dad's house was full of uncles and aunts and younger nieces and nephews. As the sibling with his own apartment and a guest room, you had been sent to stay with me while visiting from your own place upstate instead of your old room at our parents' house.

It wasn't the first time you'd appeared on the stream, since my rig sat with the camera facing the door, but maybe it was the new people I'd been attracting this week on top of my more regular viewers: The chat started to ping like crazy.
