You read the advertisement with at first a puzzling look. Listings for willing participants in research studies were all too common on a university campus, and professors and graduate students often tapped their own undergraduate population to be the guinea pigs in experiments- especially those related to psychology. This ad in particular appeared normal at first glance, but the vague description became fuel for the imagination of anyone who read more closely.
"This is a study on the behavioral impacts of direct physical reprimand and intense verbal chastisement. Participants will be paired and given instructions for completing the behavioral modification, after which an observation period of 2 weeks will take place with regular check-ins." What exactly did they mean by that? What would they even be observing? You read on. "Participants will be compensated $50 per hour of their time dedicated to the study." That settled it, you were in.
After arriving, you are greeted by the researchers, who welcome you. You take a short questionnaire and are then escorted to a room by a smart-looking graduate student. The room is empty, save for an armless chair in the center and a box sitting on the floor. She turns to you and says "we reviewed your survey and determined you will be in the spankee group. Your spanker will be in in just a moment."
