He was exhausted.

The train commute to the office numbed his brain; James chose to listlessly tune into the conversations surrounding him. An unfortunate discovery that a politician was a fiend in secrecy, a devil rampaging at a mall— there was a time he would’ve been indignant to hear these events.

Now, he could scarcely find the enthusiasm to react. Loosening his tie was more provocative than the thought of demons; a year spent killing devils had already ruined him. The hope and optimism in James eyes was supplanted with a tired, haunted look, his handsome features diminished by massive dark bags and tiny faded scars. Measuring his sullen expression in the trains windows, distorted and mostly inscrutable, he felt pity. What went wrong? He held the briefcase tighter against his chest.

“— Excuse me, sir!” James flickered his eyes to the side. An elderly woman, voice inflected with a frail and wavering tone, gently tugged on his overcoats lapels. He began to apprehensively pull back and mutter some transparent excuse, but she impressed her question quicker. “Are you perhaps a foreigner? One of those…- international devil hunters sent to drill our Public Safety to a passable standard?”

He flinched. He bit back a grimace. It took everything to ensure his composure didn't falter-- unwanted attention was the last thing he wanted. James acquiesced with a small nod, and before the senior could entertain anymore small-talk, the train arrived at its station.

The dull beep and whir of mechanical doors was a blessing. James hurriedly moved through the crowd as expeditiously as he could, a pang of shame stabbing in his chest. This wasn’t something he wanted to be doing; top brass decided it for him. He knew why, and it hurt— he was shaken from ceaseless loss, defeat and failure. While skilled, he needed a reprieve, and what better way to keep him feeling of use than training some rookies?

It made him uneasy. They’d quit or be dead in a month after. James would’ve like to fit in the former category, but this was all he’d ever known; there’s no other avenues for one-trick mutts. He let out an unintelligible mumble and pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to console himself. “Stop thinking already. Stop thinking so…- Fucking, so fucking /hard/ about it.”

He crossed roads and alleys and eventually made his way to the Public Safety office. It was cold and nearly gothic in its appearance, suddenly feeling wary. He had heard things about the high ranking devil hunter he was supposed to meet first. A little orientation can’t hurt, right?

Thank you for taking time to read! I’m looking to RP a scenario in the CSM universe with a ratio between smut and story that we can discuss. James, a disillusioned devil hunter, is being sent in an international job to others in Japan— finding an unlikely relationship with a senior there. Aside from fandom knowledge being required, I'm perfectly open to you RPing a character like Makima or your own character that fits the same bill.

I usually write between a minimum of 350 words to 1300.
