Hi all! I have FINALLY received permission to work remotely for a trial period of 3 months beginning in January. After that, we will reassess and see if I can do it full time. The only stipulations that they have are I need to stay within an hour or two of my time zone(that is completely fine with me) and I need to keep the same phone number.
I live in Toronto Canada, so I have decided to travel South America. I spent some time in Argentina this year and fell in love with it, so I will definitely be spending more time there, as well as in Chile, Brazil and more place which I haven't decided on yet. My only question is....how do I keep my same phone number without breaking the bank? My current roaming plan is 16 dollars per day which is outrageous in my opinion and not feasible for me. The only Canadian company that seems to have a decent roaming plan is Freedom Mobile, but of course it doesn't include the majority of the countries I would like to stay in.
I have found an app called "Fonus" which claims to allow me to use my phone to make and receive calls as well as send and receive messages (I have a google pixel 8 pro if it matters). Has anyone had any luck with this app?
I have looked for answers to this question on reddit, but have come up empty handed for Canadian numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like this to go as smoothly as possible so I can spend more than just 3 months working and traveling.
I hope you all have an incredible day!!
