For those of you who have travelled to many countries, I am curious. Where in the world (in your experience) has the most well-educated, open-minded and well-informed people? Not just well-informed regarding their own country but other countries and world issues as well. I'm specifically asking about the locals you've met, not expats.
The reason I'm asking is because I live on an island which is fairly geographically and culturally isolated from other countries, and our media is something of an echo chamber, which unfortunately breeds a very insular, parochial, ignorant and sometimes xenophobic attitude amongst the local population.
I just want to know where in the world is the opposite.
Looking forward to your responses :)
