About to take the leap, and my excitement is becoming fear. Would love some support/advice.

Post Body

Hello everyone!

I'm a guy from the Caribbean, I'm used to being away from home, but last time I did it for so long I went through a terrible break-up. So maybe I'm having PTSD. Or maybe this fear as the date closes in is normal. (Leaving next month)

I'm not leaving with the bank account full of money, just enough to survive the first three months in case my business doesn't do great. I've been planning this for about two years since I got a job at a major airline. Plan has been changing, been spending some of my savings, been saving again… and so on. But I'm about to quit, and I want to take that last cheap flight to Asia and work my way back.

I want to do this. This has been my dream forever, and I feel like if I keep waiting, I'm never going to do it.

I have specific questions (please don't judge, they're coming from a place of anxiety), but I'm open to any advice you can provide.

  1. Do you think I'm crazy for taking the leap without a lot of money in the bank?
  2. Have you ever left without your ticket back? (I have escape plans ready, not back to my island but to my family's house either in England, Austria, or the Sates)
  3. I'm so comfortable at home, but I won't be able to afford this same level of comfort while I'm away. Do you think it's okay to downgrade my living conditions?

I'm a bit afraid of the answers, but I guess that's why I came here.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and for replying.
