Post Body
If you compare your own MFing experience to what you see on reddit, you'll probably feel severely unlucky or underwhelmed. It probably seems like everyone has dropped Shako, Oculus, Jah/Ber runes, Mara's, etc. It's not the case though. The vast majority of players have an experience probably similar to your own. There's a few things to keep in mind regarding RNG/Drops when comparing them to reddit
- You're only seeing a small percentage of players drops. A small percentage of players with the best drops are getting the upvotes on here. When players are posting "I can't find anything good, it's been 2 weeks of farming", those are not getting upvoted to the top because they're not the funnest content.
- Don't expect to drop something like a Jah rune just because someone did on reddit. Certain items are incredibly rare. It's far more likely that you will go an entire ladder without dropping even a Sur, Ber, or Jah rune. D2 isn't a game where you can really target farm items very reliably. For example, it took me about a year of Single Player PlugY to find a Jah rune, and that's using /players5-8 a majority of the time farming.
- Eventually, you will find items you desire. There are certain items like Shako, Oculus, Mara's, Arachnid Mesh that will drop for you eventually as you do your Mephisto/Pindle runs. There will probably come a point where many of you will be tired of seeing Shako drop. Just on a pure odds game, these items will probably drop for you unless you don't play much. Other items like Jah/Ber likely won't drop in a ladder for you, but the more ladders you play, you will probably end up having some ladders where one of these runes do drop for you. If your goal is something like crafting enigma, don't think you have to drop Jah/Ber. You want to be farming good gear and trading it into runes, and eventually saving up for Jah/Ber.
- RNG is just kind of weird. In my single player Plugy account, I dropped 2 Griffons, 1 Death's Fathom, and several Ber runes before I ever found Tal's Amulet. Some people probably found a Jah rune on their first day of D2R release while some will never drop one ever. If RNG is against you, that will change at some point. You might not find the SoJ you want, but maybe you find a skiller with 45 life for another class that you can trade for an SoJ and a few high runes. Patience is the key with RNG
Happy farming guys. Have fun, and don't base your expectations off reddit posts :)
