So I've been T1 for almost 18 years and have never had any kind of glucose monitor apart from a finger prick. Based in New Zealand all other sources of glucose monitoring are self funded and insurance won't cover them.. pricks 🤣.
I've been looking at the newly released Dexcom G7, or the Freestyle Libre and I'd really like to hear from anyone who's used either (or the G6 given that the G7 is new).
So a little about the situation for context:
Dexcom G7/G6 one month pack: $379.50 Freestyle Libre 14 day monitor: $97.93 I'd need to buy a reader for either as my phone isn't compatible. No insulin pump, just Novorapid and Lantus pens so no closed loop situation.
I want to obviously lower my A1C as it is currently in the red, but will a proper CGM help me to do that better than an FGM? Is the roughly $80 additional per 14 days for a CGM worth it? Or likewise, as an FGM is only telling me when I'm looking, is it just as likely that I'll be as bad keeping an eye on it as I am now.
If you've got this far, thanks for the read, and any discussion would be greatly appreciated!
