Because my diabetes is secondary to a rare genetic disorder (mitochondrial disease)* I have had to fight insurance for an incredibly long time to be covered for a CGM (we won’t get into the battle that may never end over a pump). Finally, I was covered for the Freestyle Libre 2 and received everything today - a wonderful transition into the new year! But I have no real access to anyone to provide tips and tricks or recommend the additional items that are absolutely necessary (adhesive rings? monitor cover?). I was hoping you guys here would be kind enough to help? You truly are such a wonderful, supportive community!
- Mitochondrial disease causes a type of diabetes that looks and behaves a lot like T1. However, instead of being an autoimmune process it is a result of the cells in my pancreas not having the energy necessary to function and produce hormones/insulin. I am fully dependent on insulin and will always be. That’s why I chose to post and read here as T1 is the closest to my situation.
