Fiasp and pump?
Post Body

Hi everyone, just joined this sub, figured I'd use reddit for something other than following video games and sports teams! I'm a 32 year old with 31 years of T1D, been a novolog omnipoder for about 10 years now.

I needed a new prescription for Novolog last week, asked my doc to call it in. Pharmacy calls me and says my insurance doesn't cover it (I'm in the American Healthcare system, which is the easiest and shortest way to explain why my insurance won't cover it). I ask my doctor for a prior-auth via email, turns out his office doesn't process the message.

Fast forward to today, I'm on the last of my Novolog in my pump, and only have one vial of Humalog (expired 9/20, but opened in 2018, although refrigerated since then) in the fridge. Spend the entire afternoon trying to get my doctor to approve a prior-auth for Novolog, doesn't happen before close of business. However, my doctor's office says they can give me two sample vials, which will last me for basically a month. Thinking that I'm getting two vials of Novolog, I drive over to my doctor's, and am given Fiasp.

Been diabetic 30 years, never heard of this before. Do my research, find that its ultra fast acting, not necessarily the best for pumps, and should definitely only be transitioned to with close monitoring.

SO, long story short new reddit friends, I have some questions.

(1) Thoughts on whether the expired Humalog vial from 9/20 would still work? The vial was actually first used in 2018, but kept refrigerated since then.

(2) Does anyone with an omnipod use Fiasp? Did you have to modify your dosing, if you were coming over from Novolog or Humalog?

Thanks!
