I’m in my early 40s and have been diagnosed since 2019. I’ve always looked after my blood sugars, although over the past few months I let myself go. I’d take 10U pretty much every meal, and the diet was poor, for example.
I had major anxiety over my lipid panel in June, as I had total cholesterol of 6.5, high triglycerides (4.2mmol), under reference HDL (1.06) and an LDL of ~3.5. Not only that, my A1C was 51mmol. So yeah, bad times.
From August, I got back into (badly) running three times a week, cut out eating my weaknesses of chocolate and crisps, and started taking back some control over my portion sizes.
As is usually the case when I exercise, I need almost no bolus insulin. Since August, I’ve had literally one unit of necessary bolus. I tried to have at least one or two units with a bigger meal just to keep consistent, but ended up having hypos. I still take 3I Lantus every evening.
Had my new lipid panel done the other day: 4.9mmol total cholesterol (under the borderline!), 0.88 triglycerides, and a better balance of LDL/HDL (1.18-3.35). My A1C is 43 now, 1mmol above range.
My time in range is back to its best as well! My friends and partner are pleased, but I know that you guys would also appreciate the success story.
