Guys I am not diabetic, but my dad is. Type 1. I've seen him get low plenty of times, and I can recognize when it is happening and usually get him something to eat or drink before anything bad is happening. But tonight was different. I was laying in bed watching a documentary on Mt. Everest and I heard what sounded like a dog barking outside. I thought it might be my dad but wasn't really sure. Then I heard the door to my dad and stepmom's room swing open and footsteps hurriedly coming down the hall to my room and knocking on my door, "I need your help". I rushed into my dads room to find him convulsing worse than I had ever seen. His eyes were open but blank. It's something I'm trying to forget but I don't know if I'll be able to ever. She asked if I'd ever seen him like this before and I said yes, once, but that was a lie. This was the worse I'd ever seen him. It scared me to my core. We tried to get Gatorade in him in between the shakes. He eventually stopped the full body convulsions, but he was still shaking locally. I knew that too much Gatorade didn't sit well with his stomach and we tried to get some water in him as well, but to no avail. He threw up seemingly most of what we had just put in him. I don't really want to go into a whole lot more detail but I tested him 4 times to see if his blood sugar was going up and it was but rather slowly. I'm not sure why I'm writing this but I just can't keep it in, I was genuinely scared tonight. We finally got him awake and somewhat responsive. He at least knew who we both were and drank Gatorade when we asked him. I just joined this sub and am not really sure if this is a normal type of post or not, but like I said I couldn't really go to sleep without writing or talking to someone. All in all the whole episode probably lasted an hour and a half. Thanks for reading, I'm gonna try and get some sleep now.
Edit: About 2 minutes after I posted this he threw up all the Gatorade and whatever else was in his stomach but he was at least coherent and could eat some candy.
