How to manage spiked BG after corticosteroid shot ?

Hi guys

I got a shot of methylprednisolone yesterday and about 12 hours later I find my BG in mid 200s, 4 hours post any meal

T2D. Ozempic 1mg. Lantus (down to 10ius ) and Humalog either meals (10iu/g).

I typically correct with 1 unit lately. i was nervous in going too much cuz I an scared of lows overnight so just did 2 IUs 5 then 5 more an hour later

havent gone below 150 whatsoever oh and mid of the night I took 50% more Lantus So 10 before bed and 5 middle of the night I’m at abiht 250-300 grams of carbs daily now

anyway. Only went to 170. Woke uo after 2h sleep and took more Humalog.

i am not getting another cortisone shot. This was a orne time.

I understand with meals I need to possibly double the Humalog but how do I handle the 150 in fasted state now? Take more Lantus? I’m six hours until my evening dose for Sunday so just wait it out ? Then double up ?

not sure how long this side effect is supposed to last. Doc just said this will raise my BG and to adjust my insulin accordingly.

  1. Should I bother adjusting my Lantus dose ? If so take more now or just wait until my next evening dose ? It’s a one time steroid shot so not sure if this will last days or maybe one day

2 or do I just keep taking hunalog until the blood glucose starts coming down? How do you do this ? One IU at a time ? How long to wait if doing this in fasted state ? (I wear a Dexcom btw )

thank you for any tips

edit. I have leftover metformin , which I was using (w insulin ) before I switched to ozempic I read that the steroid drug blocks liver from being responsive to insulin. I understand that metformin works on the liver so maybe it could help ? Idk I know metformin stops liver from making glucose not sure if it stops it from dumping it into blood ).
