I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 weeks ago and I've been following the diet that I was given as closely as I can.
Then tonight we went to a fancy Japanese place where their speciality was wagyu steaks. I told myself it'd be fine if I had a little so I got the equivalent of roughly 1 cup of steak rice (it was basically oily white rice), a few lean strips of the wagyu steak, a couple of cans of coke zero, and some edamame. I checked my blood sugar before the meal and it was at 125, which is roughly the range that I'm in usually.
After the meal, I then walked around for about an hour and a half to make sure that In wouldn't spike too hard.
I then came home and checked my blood 4 hours after the meal and my reading came back at 149.
Honestly feels kinda bad since I really thought that I'd be able to keep my sugar in check, but I guese the combo of high fat red meat and white rice really is tough to fight.
Ah well. Tomorrow is a new day. I just made a giant pot of vegetable soup that I'll be consuming throughout the week along with a plan to buy a couple of tubs of kimchi as soon as the grocery opens up. The battle against diabetes continues!
