So while I was drinking heavily for the last 3-4 years my aic continued to climb. In one year it went from 5.6 to 6.0 to 6.6. Then my dr prescribed me metrormin 1000 mg in January. I stopped drinking 90% of what I used to drink…and eventually scaled back (after my initial 3 months on metformin) use. Since January my aic went from 6.6 to 6.1 to recent 5.9. Mind you, this last 3 months I haven’t been consistent with my metformin but I have scaled my liquor consumption all the way back.
I said all that to say, I’m very very confident my alcohol consumption was directly attributed to my diabetic diagnosis.
At this rate I’m confident that my aic will continue to go backwards.
Also, just a heads up, I don’t check my blood levels at all. In fact I don’t even know how to. I just relied exclusively on my blood test every three months. Also, I stopped drinking as much soda. I would say that has been reduced by at least 40%.
