hi all
recent T2D here.
wanted to ask for some input on insulin protocol and insulin type for my scenario.
currently taking 10 IUs of Lantus once a day (was taking 15 twice a day but tapered ) plus humalog with meals. eating around 300 carbs per day
second month on ozempic. now 1 mg and it’s really keeping things in control. less carb cravings etc
the issue I am having is with pre and during workout. I work out in the mornings. I pre bolus about 1 IU per 10 grams of carbs. so typically 100-150 carbs pre workout in form of Gatorade , gummies etc.
my BG will go up into 150-170 range then settle in low 100 but two hours post workout , maybe 90 min post it starts rising to another peak , albeit a lower one. every time. sometimes I get this w meals that include carbs.
does this happen because humalog peaks too quickly ? do I need to increase my Lantus ? my BG is fine when fasting. so what I’ve been doing is topping up w another bolus. say 100g carbs. then 10 IUs pre workout. and if post I’m still 150 i take 5 more IUs.
I can hold out and it will come
down eventually but I can’t function w sugars over 130. I keep falling sleep at my desk or at the wheel
i thought of regular insulin that lasts 4 hours but in such cases I’ll just be more hungry later on.
Thoughts ?
ade there insulins that are just slightly longer Peak than humalog I can try ?
also , side question. I’ve seen lyumjev (sp?) as an ultra rapid. any others you suggest I ask doc about ? The ultra rapid would be for mid day corrections. With humalog it takes me 30, sometimes 45 mins to bring me From 150 to below 120. And mid day I sleep if I am over 130.
thank you so much.
