I got diagnosed in January but my a1c levels were on the lower end of I guess what's considered diabetic. I was on metformin but now I'm on Januvia.

I'm just so confused my doctor basically told me to take these meds and that's it no diat no exercise no checking sugar intake nothing but taking the meds. I don't even have a glucose monitor.

He won't answer my questions other then I'm fine and nothing is wrong. My issue is I get times where I'm hungry all the time or where I'm super shaky or I just overall don't feel right and those are the times I'd like to be able to check my blood sugar levels.

I'm not really sure how diabetes works is it possible for me to go too low? Can I still have days where I spike even with the meds? I'm just confused. I see an endo per my request in August.

I'm just now trying to decide if I pay out of pocket for a glucose monitor because they won't prescribe one or do I just go on like I am.
