So, I got given a form to fill out for reasonable accommodation and explain the reasoning as well as have my Dr sign off on it. I have asked for my mandated breaks on time with reasoning of needing to keep my sugars in check as I work Union Construction and sometimes it can be a lil off with break times. However, my question here relates to two instances. Both of which I had woken up with a severe low sugar only a few minutes before my start time. I called my boss and explained that I had just woken up with a low and am heading into work (was in the process of drinking OJ as I’m calling). I fixed my sugar and showed up about 30min late give or take to the job site only to be told I’m getting a write up for being late and that it was the fact of the matter and had nothing to do with my sugar because I didn’t go to an ER or clinic then showed up seeming fine (as one does after fixing a low) without providing a Dr’s note proving my low even though they knew I had a low because over the phone I was out of it. On this form as I said above I have asked for the breaks at normal times but I have also asked for the two write ups relating to having a low that needed attention and allowance of me coming in slightly tardy to be stricken from my record on grounds that it has not happened again due to me righting the system I had and that I had a medical emergency that needed tending to ensure my own as well as everyone else’s safety onsite. Is that asking to much or is it an inadequate accommodation to request from my HR in relation to my T1D? I need to know before I turn this paper in so I can either erase the request as not to sound bad to the company or like I’m asking for an excuse as to why I was late with no real documented proof. Thanks y’all
