How can I encourage my husband to take his meds / diabetes seriously?

My husband is type 2, has been for about ~5-6 years now. His A1C as of a year ago was very high and his fasting glucose level when not taking meds is in the 200-300s. It has progressively gotten worse and worse, and heā€™ll go through periods of a few days at a time of taking all of his meds (synjardy, pioglitazone and insulin), then just stop because the combo all at once takes his body time to adjust to again. This guy will then go out and buy 2-3 1L of soda / Brisk tea / simply orange juice damn near every day, and eats a ton of carbs.

What I do to try to help currently - put all daily meds out in a pill box with insulin needles right next to it and refill when he does take meds, only keep diet soda in the house, cook 50% of his meals (the rest and most unhealthy he gets out of the house), and I donā€™t pressure him to take them - only ask him to take them every now and then, as I know that nagging doesnā€™t help anything. Heā€™ll take them maybe 50% of the time when I ask.
Iā€™ll also sometimes ask if we can go on a family walk after some meals, which the answer is always ā€œnoā€.

Iā€™m at a loss of what else I can do for him other than just completely give up at this point. I almost lost my sister due to T2 and her needing a kidney transplant and a couple of strokes and TIA. His mom had gestational that never went away and itā€™s severely affecting her mental health the older she gets and has had a couple of TIA. Iā€™m currently a STAHM and financially preparing for the worst thatā€™s going to happen to him because, honestly, itā€™s only a matter of time before his big health scare comes at this point. Then thereā€™s the whole ā€œIFā€ he were to survive said health scare. Iā€™ve only briefly mentioned my fears to him when he has asked in the past

So my question is, does anyone have any advice on how I can be a supportive partner in this situation? Any similar experiences?
