I apologize in advance if this question comes off as ignorant, but what is the purpose of free to enter contests? I’m not talking about the occasional free contests for actual prizes… but the ones that are free with no prizes. Is there anything gained from entering/performing well in these? I’m sure there are people that like to play for entertainment, which is fine, but I recognize a lot of the same entrants are also in the paid competitions. Are they earning rewards points or something I’m not aware of? Is it a strategy thing to test different construction types? Or something else entirely?

I play them for fun, but it is frustrating when you have a great lineup that you only play in a free game. I don't know why experienced players would play them. There is no reward or bonus points.
