With the emergence of Kerby Joseph this year as a starting caliber safety, with Elliott stepping up his game and being a critical piece of our run defense this year, and with Tracy Walker returning from injury and probably being our best overall player at the position... We are looking at 3 starting caliber players in a position where you typically only have 1 or 2 on the field at a given time.
Each of these players has a very distinct set of strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other very well, and having several good players at a position is never a bad thing; however, how we choose to approach this situation is an intriguing question.
With the lack of solid corner play for most of this year, you could argue all 3 should be starting - they're 3 of the 4 best secondary players on this team; however, that may be difficult to put into practice. Obviously Elliott is more of a downhill style player, Joseph is your prototypical center fielder, and Walker is probably the most well rounded of the 3. And teams don't typically deploy 3 safeties all that often. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are about this and how you'd look to deploy these 3 players next year.
