Something that takes a bit longer is not necessarily a bad thing!
Post Body

So I dont know how well this is going to go over, but I just felt that I should mention it here, as I feel I am much more likely to get a well thought out response. Personally I feel that part of the reason that we have so many people detransitioning is partially due to affirmative care, as well as no longer having the therapy requirements to transition in the first place. So when I was asked by someone what they could do to help ensure that they had the least chance of detransitioning, I said that using the old model will provide the best way for that, 1 year of therapy social transition, 1 year of therapy hormones, and 1-2 years before surgical intervention. I know this is not a quick fix, but this is not like changing a pair of socks, it is a very serious medical proceedure and with the amount of individuals who are detrans. I just feel that a return to this is sorely needed, perhaps there could be SOME exceptions made, or other things as I usually am not for absolutes, but I do feel it provides the support and the best way forward if someone wants to transition. I have heard so many stories of people given hormones on a first visit, some after stating they dont have dysphoria, then they regret it because they were never even explained what was going to happen when they took it, all of it breaks my heart, I want to comfort all of the people that have been going thru this, and help them know that things will get better! I just hate the thought that there is no way to stem the tide of new people detransitioning the amount of pain that surrounds this issue is strong, I hope one day things will settle down and common sense will prevail! So I pose this to you, is the old method something that should be more implemented, rather than the approach of "everyone gets hormones" it just seems a bit dangerous and uninformed!
