Why do you play if not to have fun?
Post Body

Kind of a more philosophical question that can apply to a lot of things, but it arose from something specific to destiny.

I did a VoG run where U was talking with my LFG about how I just wanted a chill group to have fun with and one guy responded with "Imagine playing Destiny to have fun" to which we all laughed.

Later during the gatekeeper encounter this guy was dead set on doing push strat to praetorians which I an personally not a fan of as it renders 2 of 6 members with no purpose and it's just not very fun, but it's not something I'm super opposed to even if I'm not the biggest fan. Whilst doing the encounter I expressed that I wasn't a fan of the encounter because "It's just very boring and the traditional way is more fun" to which this guy responded to the effect "I already told you I don't play this game for fun."

So I pose this question to the reddit in the words of Reggie Fils-amie himself, "If it's not fun, why bother?" If you don't play the game to have fun, why do you play the game at all? And why do you exploit activities to speed them up because they aren't fun when those activities are completely optional?

Tl;Dr Guy /SRS said he doesn't play the game to have fun, so why else would you play the game?
