About Kill Trackers in the TWAB

So they said they’re going to give exotics kill trackers without the need of a catalyst.
My question is will they put previous kills onto the weapon already? Or will it be after the update it will track kills from there on? For ex I think I have over 3k Last Word kills, will those go onto my exotic? Thoughts? Probably not I’m assuming
