When people say “everyone is depressed”
Post Body

I hear this a lot; with people saying oh isn’t everyone depressed and anxious, how can you not be? I think I get where they are coming from but I find this really dismissive. I know depression exists on a spectrum, and it’s common that at some point in life many people might experience some form of it perhaps. But as someone who has suffered from depression for most of my life and is also currently on a mental health leave from work, it just feels so minimizing. It makes me question myself as to what’s wrong with me then, if apparently everyone is depressed but can function just fine (I know there is high functioning depression, which I experience also, but that’s different than what I’m talking about). Does anyone else feel this way? I hope my post makes sense. It’s just been bothering me a lot and I’ve been really hard on myself lately.
