Depression question.

I heard that antidepressants only help you cope with the illness better, but don't totally remove symptoms. I've been on meds for a year, they help but they don't completely remove the symptoms. Am I relegated to dealing with this illness? Is it unrealistic to expect to feel "normal" again?
