I never understood the Ben Hillier hate when I first became a fan & I still don’t, he’s not Flood, that much is true, but damn did he do so much right on PTA & SOTU(Delta Machine did more or less miss the mark). Especially after sitting through two James Ford produced projects, that I believe to be their most poorly produced albums yet, I really miss how full & layered every song sounded on those two albums, how chunky and powerful the guitars were(they were so thin and weak on the last 2 albums to me). I think we don’t appreciate how much he was responsible for breathing new life into DM as they transitioned into the 21st century. Idk I just think continuing to push the narrative that he wasn’t a good producer simply for ‘Delta Machine’ is backwards. Speaking As a producer I just love his work.
