Depaul University Pathway Honors program vs Loyola University
Post Body

Hey all, I appreciate you clicking on my post! I am a high school senior running out of time to make a decision. I have narrowed my choices down to two options Depaul University and Loyola University Chicago. With either school I plan on double majoring in Neuroscience and Biochemisty. I am not 100% on what I will be doing after receiving my undergraduate, but I do know that I be will continuing my education after receiving my undergraduate, whether that leads me to grad school or med school I am not sure. Both schools will cost me basically the same amount of money after scholarships and both hold their own pros/cons.

Depaul pros I was accepted into their Pathways Honors program and their future forward program. These programs, especially the Pathways Honors program, will help me gain internships and research opportunities, experiences that I will need. Additionally, because their program is smaller than Loyolas its easier to feel that sense of community and solidarity that can be lost in bigger programs. Depaul University also has a direct partnership with Rosland Franklin University, a graduate/medical school. Finally, the outcomes for the students in this program look great, they don't release them publicly, but I saw them when attending a seminar about this program.

Depaul cons They're school is not known for their science programs, so I'd be a minority in the school. I've heard bad things about the trimester system Depaul has, in that it is too fast paced. Finally, their name doesn't hold the same authority to grad schools/med schools as Loyola's because of their program not being as established.

Loyola Pros Their science programs are their specialty, with about 78% of their pre med students getting into med school their first try. Continually, since their program is more established the name will just looks slightly better on an application. I know this next point is more superficial, but I just like their campus more, the layout, the dorms, and feeling. Finally, they have a medical school that I could gain early assurance to sophomore year.

Loyola Cons I did not get accepted into their Honors program so I will be just another science major/potential premed student in a sea of science majors and premed students. Additionally, I have heard that most internships/research opportunities are reserved for upperclassmen and that underclassmen can secure those opportunities, but you need to really push andadvocate for yourself to gain those spots as underclassmen.

Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated!
