Uppers are hurting like hell when I put them in

I had surgery last Tuessay (Aug 13th) and had all my upper teeth removed. I have been wearing the dentures during the day but when I put them on in the morning I'm almost on tears because of how much they hurt against my gums. The 2 times I have called the dentists that did it, they assured me "it's fine" and "normal." I have worn them at all today because of it. Any tips or helpful ideas? Anything at this point would be appreciated.
