Question about dying in an area with a roaming NPC

Really just a curiosity question, as this hasn't happened to me yet. But say I was making my way through 1-2 for example and freed Ostrava. Ostrava roams around and fights enemies (if you've left any alive for him to fight). If I were to die before reaching and killing the boss, would Ostrava get himself killed when all of the enemies respawn? Or would he revert back to being "trapped" again?
