Why is it so hard to get Help
Post Body

My mom had been showing signs of Dementia for almost 2 years if not more. Her doctor had started her on medication for Alzheimer's without giving her an official diagnosis, the medication made her sick and she refused to take it and stopped seeing him as her doctor. Every where I went to try to get her help it was basically someone there to slam the door in your face. Why was that happening, because she didn't have the official diagnosis. Yet when asking for help on how to get her diagnosed, it was well don't ask me we don't do that.

So, after a serious episode where she almost killed herself by taking to much of her medication and a trip to the ER she was officially diagnosed. So a weight was lifted off my shoulder, so I thought. It just allowed more walls to be put up in my face. I have power of attorney, just not medical power of attorney. So with power of attorney I am able to do somethings and access some of her accounts. She has way to much in assets to qualify for Medicaid, to qualify for Medicaid the person can't have more than $2,000 in assets. So since she doesn't qualify for that we have to pay for her care in a memory care facility.

Now that she has been diagnosed I thought things would go so much easier in getting her the help that she needs, not so fast. While I have power of attorney, I don't have complete access because I have to have two doctors sign off that she is incapacitated and can't care for herself or make decisions on her own care. So without those two letter's I can't get any help. I am struggling to pay to take care of her which is another battle with the bank. The fact that I can't even pay for her care at the facility even thought I had the money in the account the bank rejected the check for non sufficient funds. So I can't even write a check without looking like a frigging idiot.

One thing I can is that even though the check was rejected, the care facility has been working with me and I even showed them the account balance on the day I told them the money was in the account and that they could cash the check. I mean seriously what do I have to do to get her the help that she needs and not have to worry about her being kicked out because I can't pay. The money is there, but because of the bank I can't do anything. I after I pay next month's rent I will not be able to do anything. I can't pay anymore after that with out help from the bank or the doctors.

I mean there were probably 6 or more doctors involved in her care at the hospital when she was diagnosed and none of them will do anything to help. At this point, not only am I screwed but my Mom who can't care for herself won't have a place to stay soon. So much for the so called help that is out there for people struggling with dementia.
