I’m close to diamond for the year, and looking for extra MQDs as I get closer, I went to check out hotels on Delta Stays for my next trip to take advantage of the MQD promo, but when I compare identical dates the rate direct from the hotels are substantially lower: $330 on Delta Stays is $226 direct. Other comparables: $235 “discounted” 15% to $201 on Delta Stays is $140 booking direct and $205 vs $151 direct.
What gives? It’s 30-50% more to book through Delta Stays. I was willing to pay a small premium/markup to get some extra MQDs, but my understanding is Delta is just acting as a middle man and hoping I won’t notice an obscene markup on their end. And even worse- if something goes wrong, I’m going to be stuck with a hotel and Delta passing the blame.
Am I missing something? Is there a benefit that I’m overlooking? Or does Ed just think I’m that much of a sucker? Someone please make it make sense.
