Overnight in ATL

I have an upcoming trip from ATL to SXM (st maarten) that is going to require an overnight and have a few questions. For background the flight lands in Atlanta at 930pm and flight the next day to SXM is 940am. We (my wife and I) will be traveling with our pet so need a pet friendly hotel.
- Will we need to collect our checked luggage for the layover or will it stay checked for the flight the next day?
- Does the flight to SXM depart from the international terminal?
- Any hotel recommendations?
