i currently have grphneOS on a Pixel 7 and i like it. what i don't like is the Pixel 7. i mean, it's been fine, but there are issues that i've just dealt with in the time i've had it - horrible connectivity for calls, overheating, inconsistent battery performance, etc. i've been considering jumping ship and going to a different manufacturer, but it's slim pickings if you wanna run a customer ROM.
i almost went with CalyxOS before grphne, but went with grphne because things i'd read made it seem that grphne took the security a little further than Calyx. but if i can use Calyx on more devices, then maybe some concessions can be made. i did see on Calyx's website, though, that they too, only offered Pixel phones, and fewer models. can CalyxOS only be ran on Pixels too? if that's the case, i may just stick with my current setup, but wanted to reach out and see if there was any other options. my ideal setup would be grphne on the newest Zen Phone by ASUS. if CalyxOS could be used on it, i'd probably make the switch right now.
i did see the g52 listed on Calyx's website and looked them up. they look like good phones, really. if i could get a Fairphone 5 here in the states, i might get one of them. i'll probably try Calyx out on my Pixel 7 and if it works out well, i'll probably upgrade to an 8. the cellular connection of the 7 series is terrible
yeah i do think i need to test it out for sure. what device do you use it on?
i see. ok i'll give that a try. i think part of the reason i'd switched to LTE-only was to try and help with the battery life of the device. it's been fine up until the last couple of months or so. but i'll test it and see what happens. appreciate the info :)
sorry for the delayed response! i haven't tried disabling VoLTE since it was showing to be recommended. i have my preferred network type set to LTE only, and 2G disabled. also have WiFi calling turned on for when mobile networks aren't available.
i can try disabling the VoLTE and see if that does anything.
it could be, yes. well, not my wifi, that i know of - it's always solid. but the cellular network is possible, though i can call out without issues. but people have been telling me that when they call, it goes straight to voicemail. and my texts have been super delayed, if i get them at all (regardless of whether or not i'm texting an iPhone user or Android). when people message me through Signal, or call me through Signal, no issues. but that's over wifi. i have calling over wifi turned on with my carrier, but idk if that actually works.
appreciate the feedback. honestly i'd be fine with the Pixel if the connectivity issues weren't so bad. but i've heard the 8 and 8 Pro are better. honestly, Graphene has been really good overall. i have noticed my connectivity issues have been worse lately, and i'm not sure if it's the hardware or something in a recent software update that the hardware doesn't like. i feel like it's the hardware. i thought about uninstalling the OS and installing stock android to see if the issue still persists, but i just haven't had time. i'm not an expert, obviously, and not outright stating there's an issue with Graphene - like i said, it could be something with the hardware.
oh, interesting. luckily i haven't had that experience yet.
thanks for everyone that commented. i didn't mean to stir up anything lol. i'm genuinely curious about this and wanting to learn. i will say, from what little i know and have heard/read online, Calyx does sound much more reliable as an organization. and it seems like a good cause to contribute to. but i haven't personally had any issues with my Pixel 7 on Graphene, until recently. but i think it may just be the shoddy modem in the Pixel. i also haven't had any issues in reaching out to Graphene for support or anything.
basically i just wanted to get input on whether Calyx was a comparable choice to Graphene as far as privacy and security. thanks again for the input.
which devices can have their bootloaders unlocked and re-locked? genuinely curious. i am still learning in all this, so i'm all ears!
yeah i thought about Motorola, but just haven't dug into it just yet.
